A 1970s (perhaps late 1960s or 1970s) Unfolded Commercial Japanese Poster (measures 22 1/2" x 36 3/4" [57 x 93 cm]) (Learn More) A Hard Day's Night (released in some countries as "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah"), the classic 1964 Richard Lester English rock 'n' roll (rock and roll) musical adventure screwball comedy ("The Greatest Rock & Roll Comedy Adventure"; "The Beatles in their first full-length, hilarious, action-packed film!"; "6 Brand New Songs Plus Your Beatles Favorites!") starring The Beatles (John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr), Wilfrid Brambell, Norman Rossington, John Junkin, Victor Spinetti, and Anna Quayle NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: NOTE THAT WE HAVE SIGNIFICANTLY REVISED THE DESCRIPTION OF THIS POSTER, BASED ON ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM JAPANESE EXPERTS. Note that this ultra rare style of Japanese poster (which measures larger than a regular Japanese B2, 22 1/2" x 36 3/4", and which is printed on a heavier paper stock, and which has some English writing along with some Japanese writing) comes to us from Japan and our Japanese consignor told us that Christie's South Kensington auctioned a single example of this poster in 2009, and they said that "Recent research suggests that this poster was produced exclusively for the premiere of A Hard Day's Night in Japan.", and that example sold for $862. This poster has a completely different image from that of the regular Japanese B2 on this title. HOWEVER, WE WERE JUST CONTACTED BY A JAPANESE EXPERT, and he tells us he believes this is a commercial poster, created in the late 1960s or 1970s, and was sold directly to the public at that time. We don't know whether Christie's South Kensington was correct or whether this expert is correct, and it DOES seem odd that a commercially sold poster would be an incredibly rare poster (we have only previously auctioned two examples of it). We asked our consignor what he knows, and he said he purchased this poster over 40 years ago, and has never seen another. In order to err on the side of safety, we are now calling this a "Japanese commercial poster" from the 1970s. PLEASE DO NOT BID ON IT UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT THE UNCERTAINTIES AS TO THE ORIGIN OF THIS VERY RARE POSTER.
UPDATED 07/22/2022: NOTE THAT WE HAVE SIGNIFICANTLY REVISED THE DESCRIPTION OF THIS POSTER, BASED ON ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM JAPANESE EXPERTS. Please see the updated info above. Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It has some light creases scattered in the poster and some slight darkening and tiny tears in parts of the borders.
