An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

Tarzan of the Apes, the 1918 Scott Sidney silent action adventure thriller ("The Wonder Story of the Age by Edgar Rice Burroughs"; "1000 people 1000") starring Elmo Lincoln (in the title role as "the screen's first Tarzan"), Enid Markey (as the screen's first Jane), True Boardman, Kathleen Kirkham, Thomas Jefferson, Bessie Toner, George French, and Gordon Griffith (as young Tarzan). Note that this classic book had been written four years earlier, but that it took four years for Hollywood to figure out how to film this book (in those pre-special effects days they were unsure of how to have the apes, which do lots of talking in the book). Elmo Lincoln reprised his role as Tarzan in "The Return of Tarzan". Note that he is normally referred to as the very first screen Tarzan, but actually it is the actor who played Tarzan as a boy in this movie, Gordon Griffith, who deserves that distinction!

Important Added Info: Note that the still is glued to a heavy board backing. But it appears that this was surely done in 1918, because the still has a date stamp from January 31, 1918 on the backing, and also has a snipe glued to the back, and those must have been attached in 1918, so apparently this still was distributed in that fashion.

Condition: good. The still appears to have been folded or cut diagonally down the right side before it was mounted to the board backing . Otherwise, the still is in pretty good condition!
