An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked German Movie Poster (measures 37" x 56" [94 x 142 cm]) (Learn More) Garragan, the 1925 Ludwig Wolff German silent romantic murder melodrama starring Edward Burns, Carmel Myers, Julanne Johnston, Owen Gorin, and Kurt von Lessen. Note that Ludwig Wolff was also the author of the book this movie was based on, and his novel War in the Dark was adapted into a 1928 film titled The Mysterious Lady, which starred Greta Garbo. It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from this movie until we received this German poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this German movie (and note that the image on the poster looks like the woman had been asking the man the classic Mae West line, "Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?")! Not only that, but there are very few German movie posters from before World War II in existence (because of the massive paper shortages in Germany during World War II), and most of those few are in museums. Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. The poster had tears and paper loss on parts of many folds, with darkening on the folds and tears, darkening, and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame.
