Date Sold 12/19/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original 1948 (from the first release of this movie in Denmark) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Danish Movie Poster (measures 24 3/4" x 33 1/4" [63 x 84 cm]) (Learn More) Moon Over Miami, the 1941 Walter Lang Florida Everglades romantic musical ("Adaptation by George Seaton and Lynn Starling from a play by Stephen Powys"; "Lyrics and Music by Leo Robin & Ralph Rainger"; about two Texas girls losing an inheritance because of taxes and they travel to Miami to find rich husbands) starring Don Ameche, Betty Grable, Robert Cummings (Bob Cummings), Charlotte Greenwood, Jack Haley, Carole Landis, Cobina Wright Jr., Fortunio Bonanova, and Jack Cole. Note that Alberto Vargas did the artwork for the cover of the pressbook and the 24-sheet only on this movie, and both bear his signature. The pressbook explains that Vargas was commissioned to paint this image. Nowhere does it state that he did any of the other art for the movie, even though one of the one-sheets and the insert are often described as being Vargas art. It is my opinion that they are NOT drawn by Vargas, and certainly the pressbook backs that up. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this Danish poster, which has an image of Betty Grable very similar to that from one of the two U.S. one-sheets, but with Don Ameche also depicted! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. The poster had paper loss in the bottom left corner extending into Grable's foot and affecting the bottom left credit. It had some tears and minor paper loss in the rest of the borders and fairly minor wear on the folds, with separation on the right half of the middle horizontal fold. Someone had it mounted to linen, surely solely to keep it from deteriorating further. The person who mounted it to the linen used very little glue (surely knowing it would later be removed when someone chose to completely restore it), and so it is "lifting" from the linen in a number of places. If I owned this great and super rare poster, I would surely find the best restorer there is and have them remove it from the current linen and properly re-backed and restored, but bear the poster's current condition and the expense of this restoration in mind before bidding on it.
