eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 6j058 BLACK CAMEL LC trimmed to 8x10 '31 c/u of crazed Bela Lugosi & Dorothy Revier by crystal ball! Date Sold 4/19/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 8" x 10 1/2" [20 x 27 cm]) (Learn More) The Black Camel, the 1931 Hamilton MacFadden Honolulu Hawaii Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("Charlie Chan's Latest Thriller"; based on the novel by Earl Derr Biggers) starring Warner Oland (as Charlie Chan), Sally Eilers, Bela Lugosi, Dorothy Revier, Victor Varconi, William Post, Jr., and Robert Young (in his first credited role). Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that lobby cards from this super early Charlie Chan movie (which also includes Bela Lugosi) have always been incredibly rare! We auctioned two cards from it in our March lobby card auction. A heavily trimmed card like this one sold for $215, and an untrimmed card that showed Young and Eilers (but no Oland or Lugosi) sold for $850! Now, we have the final card that we were consigned from this movie, and then we have no more (and this one has a wonderful close image of Bela Lugosi!). Also note that this lobby card has been trimmed and it now measures 8" x 10 1/2" [20 x 27 cm]. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: fair. The card has been heavily trimmed to just 8" x 10 1/2" (some theater used it in place of a still). Obviously, a talented restorer could replace the missing area, or the card could be displayed as it is, but bear this significant defect in mind before bidding on this card. Obviously, one would much prefer to find an untrimmed example of this card, but they are incredibly rare! Learn More about condition grades
