An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) Overland Stage Raiders, the 1938 George Sherman cowboy western ("Based on characters created by William Colt MacDonald") starring The Three Mesquiteers (John Wayne, Ray 'Crash' Corrigan, and Max 'Alibi' Terhune), Louise Brooks, and Anthony Marsh. Note that pre-talkie star Louise Brooks turned her back on Hollywood in 1929, and went to Europe and made some memorable films. In the early 1930s she attempted to return to Hollywood (minus her trademark flapper hairdo), but met with little success. She is prominently billed in this movie, but is not pictured on the posters. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this poster, and that was 7 years ago. Note that Louise Brooks only made four movies after she returned from Europe. This was the last of the four, and someone in the advertising department thought enough of her to prominently bill her (directly under the top stars), but they did NOT think enough of her to picture her on the posters! This is especially sad on this three-sheet, where they found room for nine people standing outside the bus (and an untold number inside), but Louise is not any of those people! UPDATED 04/01/2021: Note that we have updated the Condition information. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had paper loss at several crossfolds, including in the mouth of the cowboy at top right. It had tears and paper loss on parts of the folds and smudges and scuffs scattered throughout. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
