An Original Vintage 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm] Movie Hair Style Test Still (Learn More) Ida Lupino was an English actress and director from the 1930s to the 1970s. Her father was English comedian Stanley Lupino, and her mother took took her to an audition in 1932, and she got the part. In 1934, when she was 16, she went to Hollywood, and she had a series of minor roles. It was not until 1939's "The Light That Failed" that she got a better part, and she had some major roles in the early 1940s, including The Sea Wolf and High Sierra. In the late 1940s, discouraged with the parts she was offered, she began directing and producing movies! She passed away in 1995 at the age of 77. Important Added Info: Note that this is a test photo used to show one of the many hairstyles that Ida Lupino wore during a movie (which is not identified on this still, but we were able to identify it as 1947's "The Man I Love"; it is cool that the still is from 1945, so it took two years for the movie to be released). The stars would wear a hairstyle from the movie and have multiple pictures taken, and then they would wear different one and repeat the process, until they had tried all their hairstyles. I wonder if major stars of today have to endure this same ritual? The studios would use these images for reference if they needed to shoot additional footage at a later time after the hairstyle was changed. Also note that it is extremely likely that this is a "key book" still, and it is virtually a certainty that the punch holes were put there by the studio at the time the still was created, so they are not a defect.
