An Original Vintage 7" x 9" [18 x 23 cm] Television Still (Learn More) Julie Andrews is an English actress from the 1940s to the present. Some of her movies include: The Sound Of Music (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Mary Poppins (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Victor/Victoria (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Enchanted, Torn Curtain, and The Princess Diaries. She was the first Eliza Doolittle in Broadway's "My Fair Lady", but she was passed over for the movie because she was unknown at the time, even though she could sing wonderfully, and her replacement, Audrey Hepburn, was not allowed to sing in the movie and had to be dubbed! As of 2024, she is still alive at the age of 89. Sadly, her singing voice was damaged in 1997 after a botched throat surgery to remove nodules. Important Added Info: What a wonderful early television still this is! That's because it shows Julie Andrews very early in her career (so early in fact, that she is almost unrecognizable from how she looked just a few years later when she achieved major stardom with My Fair Lady on Broadway and Mary Poppins in the movies). What is really strange is that we can't find any reference online to her appearing on the show on the date the still says, which is May 23, 1959. It is possible that she was "bumped" from the show and did not appear, or of course, the online sources may simply be incorrect. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that this still is from the first showing of the 4/30/59 episode of "The Jack Benny Hour". We know that for certain because it has the date printed on the snipe on the back. It is very hard to find stills from 1950s or 1960s TV episodes that are absolutely from the first release, and are surely not from a 1960s or 1970s re-broadcast. Also note that this TV still measures 7" x 9" [18 x 23 cm]. Condition: fair. There are two grease pencil lines in the left of the image, one of which falls in Andrews' cheek. There is a 1" tear in both the top and bottom borders that were both repaired with tape from the back. There are some creases and smudges scattered around the edges.
