An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the 1921 Rex Ingram silent Argentina World War I (WWI) romantic melodrama ("An epic of modern life that has thrilled 10,000,000 American readers and many more the world over"; "Metro Presents The Million Dollar Master Picturization of 'The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse'"; "By Vicente Blasco Ibanez"; "Adapted by June Mathis"; about the son of a wealthy Argentinean family, which moves to Europe prior to World War I, and he enlists in the French army, and he ultimately is killed by his cousin, who is in the German army) starring Rudolph Valentino, Pomeroy Cannon, Josef Swickard, Bridgetta Clark, Alice Terry, Nigel De Brulier, and Bowditch M. Turner. Note that this movie includes a romantic sequence where Valentino has a torrid love affair with a married woman, and there is a scene where they dance the tango together (which at the time was the "forbidden dance"), and it was this scene which made him a major romantic star!

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned four half-sheets from this movie, only one in the last 21 years. That last example has now been reconsigned to us, so it is still only one of four examples we have ever auctioned!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster was folded down the center. It had many creases, stains, and pinholes around the edges, with a few tears. It had a horizontal crease in the middle of Valentino's face, going through his cheek and the top of his nose. It had tiny surface paper loss in the girl's cheek, with small paper loss in the chest of the man between the two stars, and some tiny bits of paper loss in the background between that man and the girl. There was a faint diagonal crease in the top right of the image, and some creases and scuffs scattered throughout the image. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. If I owned this great poster, I would immediately have it removed from the old linen and properly re-backed. After proper restoration, it will look great!
