An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style A Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Isle of the Dead, the 1945 Mark Robson undead plague horror thriller ("A graves dank darkness smothers the screams of a girl"; "What evil force is loose that empties graves of those long dead... buries those still alive... leaves behind it death - and worse?"; "She isn't dead yet she's buried alive!"; "Appalling! Weird! Baffling!"; "Isle of the Dead will keep you screaming!"; "Graves in frenzy!"; "The living buried!"; "The dead distorted!"; "'Vorvalaka!'...the world you hear only once - for the next time it's uttered You Are Dead!"; produced by Val Lewton; about an army general who, after a war in 1912, goes to an island to visit the grave of his wife, but he finds her body missing, and he learns that the natives dig up old graves looking for valuables, and he declares that he will find those people and punish them, and he soon is involved with vampires and zombies) starring Boris Karloff, Ellen Drew, Marc Cramer, Katharine Emery, Helen Thimig, and Jason Robards Sr. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had a 7" semi-circular tear in the middle of the right border, with tiny staple holes next to the tear (they once attached that part to the rest of the poster). There was a 2" tear in the left of the bottom border and a few other tears in the borders, with a 1" area of paper loss in the left blank border. It had pinholes, staple holes, smudges, and scuffs around the edges, with just a few scattered in the image. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting (and a talented restorer could touch them up without re-backing the poster). Because the defects are almost completely in the borders, I think many collectors would be happy to display this really cool poster just as it is, or certainly, a restorer could perform additional restoration, if the new owner chose.
