Date Sold 9/8/2013Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 8 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Ebony Parade, the 1947 Astor Pictures black African American musical stage musical compilation ("20 great stars") starring Cab Calloway and His Band, Count Basie and His Band, Mills Bros., Vanita Smythe, Mantan Moreland, Mabel Lee, Ruby Hill, Francine Everett, Dorothy Dandridge, Pat Flowers, 'Day, Dawn, and Dusk', and Jubilaires. Note that this film is a compilation of Soundies (musical film shorts which were played on a "Panoram", a "video jukebox" that was put in nightclubs, bars, and restaurants). These Soundies were created between 1940 and 1946, but were only available in big cities like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, and this film compilation of many of them gave the rest of the country a chance to see these great stars performing. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that the film distributor "Astor Pictures" primarily distributed re-releases of major studios in the late 1940s and 1950s, but they DID produce a few of their own movies, including this one. This is the first release of this movie, and it NOT a re-release! Note that only 4 lobby cards were produced for this movie, and this is the complete set. It was quite common for studios to only make sets of four for short subjects or low budget movies (or re-releases of big budget movies), because it allowed them to print the sets at half the cost, and on shorts and low budget movies, they tried to save money any way they could (especially since it is likely few theaters even bothered to order lobby cards for these titles, since they were likely shown in addition to a better movie). Note that any first release movie paper from this movie is extremely rare (in all our years of auctioning, we have only auctioned a single scene card and NO title cards or posters of any kind!). Also note that this auction also includes the envelope this item originally came with! Condition: very good. The title card has some faint smudges in the top center. Some of the cards have a pair of staple holes in each corner (one of the cards has tiny paper loss in the top left blank corner, caused by rough removal of the staple). The card showing the orchestra with the white piano has a 1" tear at top center. Other than the above defects, the cards are in pretty nice condition and they have never had any restoration or tape (and they all range from "very good" to "very good to fine")!
