An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Style A Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Gaslight, the 1944 George Cukor suspense mystery thriller ("Strange drama of a captive sweetheart!"; "M-G-M's thrilling Gaslight"; "Strange drama of a captive sweetheart!"; "Based upon the play by Patrick Hamilton"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about a woman whose strange husband is trying to make her think she is going insane, and her friend who tries to prevent that from happening) starring Charles Boyer (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Ingrid Bergman (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Joseph Cotten, Dame May Whitty, Angela Lansbury (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; in her first movie role!), Barbara Everest, and Heather Thatcher. Note that there have been many real life cases where someone has tried to make their spouse think they are losing their sanity, and it is commonly referred to as "gaslighting" that person, because of this famous movie with that plot, and in recent years, this term has become very trendy, and it is used by many young people, and surely most of them have no knowledge of its connection to this movie! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this first release style A half-sheet, and that was 6 years ago, when it sold for $880 (we also auctioned the only example of the style B half-sheet we had ever seen in that set of auctions, and it sold for $851). Note that this poster was folded at one time. Because the folds have not diminished over time, the poster can be re-folded and sent in a standard size flat package, because it will not harm the poster to do so. Therefore, if the winning bidder wants to combine it with flat purchases they can, or if they want to combine it with rolled purchases they can. Condition: fair to good. The poster was folded once in each direction and there are some creases on the folds. There are stains in the middle right of the image, in the background and entering Boyer's forehead. There are similar stains in the bottom center, under the "T" of the title. There are a lesser number of the same stains scattered in the rest of the poster, with darkening around the edges. There are some tears in the borders, which were repaired with tape from the back. While the poster has really significant defects, it is likely that much of the staining and darkening can be reversed through chemical means, and after proper restoration, the poster will look great!
