Auction History Result #580 VENDETTA 1sh R79 Domergue Date Sold 7/16/2002Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. R79 Vintage Theatrical Unfolded One-Sheet Movie Poster (27" x 41") (Learn More) Vendetta, the 1950 Mel Ferrer New Orleans Louisiana bad girl crime murder intrigue film noir ("Shocking! Thrilling!"; "Love is wild... Life is violent... Death is cheap!"; "Child of the Devil... She lives by the code of the Vendetta."; "She lives by the code of the Vendetta!"; produced by Howard Hughes; about a beautiful woman who wants to avenge her father's murder and gets her brother to do the actual work) starring Faith Domergue, George Dolenz (billed as "introducing George Dolenz"), Hillary Brooke, Nigel Bruce, Joseph Calleia, Hugo Haas, and Donald Buka. Note that this movie has an extremely unusual history! Preston Sturges originally intended to write and direct it, but he was fired by Howard Hughes, who then hired Max Ophuls, and then he too was fired, and Mel Ferrer ended up directing it. The movie was very ill-fated, being filmed in 1946 at a then-incredible cost of $4 million, and it was so lavish because Hughes wanted to give a proper showcase to his latest protege Faith Domergue, but the movie ended up being shelved for four years, and it was not released until 1950! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: fine. There are a few faint minor creases in the poster that aren't very noticeable or distracting.. Note that this poster came from a man who worked for Universal Studios through the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. He received many posters as samples, and saved them in wonderful condition! Some of them are alternate styles or have alternate titles. It is quite possible that some of them were only samples, and were never distributed to theaters, and some of them may be the only existing copy! Also note that this poster was never folded. Most movie posters from before 1980 were machine folded immediately after printing, but a very few were left unfolded. An unfolded poster from before 1980 is almost always far more difficult to find than a folded poster of the same title, and finding unfolded posters in excellent condition is even more difficult! Also note that this poster will be mailed rolled in a tube. Learn More about condition grades
