An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style B One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Goin' To Town, the 1935 Alexander Hall romantic bad-woman-inherts-fortune-and-tries-to-become-a-lady musical comedy ("She's found a new way of doin' 'em wrong!"; "Streamlined for Speed!"; "West goes modern in a big way as the cattle queen who tires of bad men and muscles into high society to pick herself a good one!"; "Celebrate Mae Day"; a wacky story of a dance hall queen whose fiancee dies leaving her great wealth, and she tries to make herself into a "lady") starring Mae West, Paul Cavanagh, Gilbert Emery, Ivan Lebedeff, Tito Coral, Fred Kohler, Monroe Owsley, Grant Withers, Marjorie Gateson, and Vladimar Bykoff (billed as "Wladimir Baikoff"). Note that this movie was originally titled "Now I'm a Lady", and some stills were printed with that title. It was then changed to "How Am I Doin'?", and we don't know what material was printed with that title. Finally, the title was changed to "Goin' To Town", and that was the final title for the movie. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this style B one-sheet, and the last one was 19 years ago. One of those two has been reconsigned to us after 27 years, so this is still only one of two examples of this one-sheet we have ever auctioned! This is certainly an unusual poster, with silhouette art of Mae West (one of the few movie stars so popular that she was recognizable by her silhouette alone). The movie opened on April 25, 1935, and this poster says "Celebrate Mae Day", so it seems likely it was sent to theaters that opened the movie, intending for them to display this poster only on or before May 1, 1935, so that the joke about "Mae Day" would work, which might help account for its extreme rarity! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and minor wear on the folds, with just a few pinholes in the borders. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
