It was originally known as the 15th Division but was renamed the 36th in July of 1917. The unit was sent to Europe in July 1918 and was deactivated in 1919. The division was called up again in 1940 for World War II (WWII). One of the units of this division has a sad claim to fame. The Second Battalion, 131st Field Artillery was detached and sent to the Pacific just before Pearl Harbor. They were captured by the Japanese and forced into slave labor, and their fate was unknown throughout the war, resulting in them being called "The Lost Battalion". In more recent years, the division has been active in search and rescue efforts following natural disasters. Important Added Info: Note that this still measures 8" x 66 1/2" [20 x 169 cm]. Condition: good. There is a diagonal tear down the still left of center that has been repaired with tape from the back. There are tack holes, stains, and some areas of tattering around the edges of the still. The still has changed to a sepia color (as is typical of vintage stills). Learn More about condition grades
