An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Movie Window Card (WC; measures 13 1/2" x 21 1/2" [34 x 55 cm]) (Learn More) The Crowd, the classic 1928 King Vidor (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) populist people-lost-in-a-big-city silent romantic family melodrama (nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about a man who feels destined for greatness, but he ends up with a very mundane life with a wife and children, but once one of his children dies, he realizes just how much he had, and by the end of the movie, has regained much of his life) starring Eleanor Boardman, James Murray, Bert Roach, Estelle Clark, and Daniel G. Tomlinson. Note that star Eleanor Boardman was director King Vidor's wife, and he had to fight to persuade her to take this unglamorous role, but it was one of the best moves she made. Also, co-star James Murray was an unknown extra who King Vidor literally picked out of a crowd. Like his character in the movie, he had his chance at greatness, but soon after the movie was released, he became an alcoholic, and died in 1936, and is virtually forgotten today. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this window card, and that was 24 years ago. Not only that, but we have never auctioned any other posters from this classic movie! Note that the card measures very slightly under 14" x 22" (an extremely tiny amount in each direction!) and has no left, right, or bottom blank borders, but it has NOT been trimmed (this was done at a time when MGM was experimenting with having as few borders as possible). Also note that this window card was never folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded. Condition: good to very good. The card once had a snipe attached to the top blank area, and it was removed or fell off, and there are now stains in that area, and there is a nail hole and surface paper loss in the left of that area. There are some stains and smudges scattered in the card, with a faint semi-circular stain in the middle of the right border, and some tack holes around the edges, with two near the middle of the card. This rare window card can be displayed and enjoyed as it is, or certainly, restoration can be performed. Learn More about condition grades
