A 1934 Re-Release Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Scarface, the classic 1932 Howard Hawks gangster organized crime thriller ("The greatest drama of modern times!"; produced by Howard Hughes; "Adapted by Ben Hecht from the novel by Armitiage Trail"; loosely based on the rise and fall of Al Capone, who had a scar on his face and was sometimes called "Scarface", but never to his face) starring Paul Muni (in the title role; as Tony Camonte), Ann Dvorak (as Tony's sister), Karen Morley, Osgood Perkins, C. Henry Gordon, George Raft (as Guino Rinaldo, Tony's best friend), Vince Barnett, and Boris Karloff (the movie was made before Frankenstein, but released after Frankenstein, and United Artists saw Karloff's great success in that movie, and they were able to make most, but not all, of the first release posters bill him as "Boris 'Frankenstein' Karloff"). Finally, note that there was a Brian De Palma remake of this movie in 1983, with Al Pacino in the lead role (and the lead characters are no longer Italians, but are Cuban). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1932 movie paper from this classic gangster movie is extremely rare! We have only previously auctioned one example of this 1934 re-release scene card, and it sold for $406. That card has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still the only example we have ever auctioned! There are early re-releases that look very similar to the original lobby cards, but some do not have the "United Artists Picture" under the title, and those are late 1930s re-releases, and then there are other cards which DO have "United Artists Picture" under the title, but do not have "Country of Origin U.S.A." within the red box (it is in the bottom right corner), and those are from a 1934 re-release. There are also first release lobby cards that were overprinted with "Shame of the nation" under the title. This is a 1934 re-release lobby card. Note that this card has a stamp on the back that indicates it came from the legendary "Cozy Theater" collection! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good to very good. There are faint smudges and stains around the edges, with pairs of staple holes scattered throughout the card (more so around the edges), but none in the stars' faces. Note that this card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! In spite of the above defects (which are primarily in the blank borders), this ultra rare card can be displayed and enjoyed, or certainly, restoration could be performed.
