An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Mother Machree, the 1928 John Ford family carnival melodrama ("Smiling Irish Eyes and Aching Irish Hearts"; about a woman who works in a carnival, and sends her son to a fine school, but when they discover his connection to her, he is expelled, and adopted by the school principal, and he grows up to fall in love with the principal's daughter) starring Belle Bennett (in the title role as Mother Machree), Neil Hamilton, Victor McLaglen (as the Giant of Kilkenny, a tattooed man), Ted McNamara, Ethel Clayton, Philippe DeLacy, Constance Howard, and John Wayne (in an early uncredited role) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the window card had an uneven 12" tear that started in the middle right, going through the "R" of "MOTHER" and up through Ford's credit and continuing to the edge of McLaglen's hair. There were some other creases and tears scattered in the poster, with pinholes, smudges, tears, and paper loss around the edges. There were some light brown stains in the face of the woman at lower right. Overall, the window card was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
