An Original Vintage Theatrical Minstrel Show Poster (measures 20" x 26 1/4") (Learn More) Mirth and Melody, the circa 1900s travelling blackface minstrel music show poster ("Hilson's Famous Minstrels"; "Mirth and Melody") advertising the travelling minstrel show. Note that we have been unable to find any additional information about Hilson or his famous minstrels. If anyone knows more about either of these or this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been mounted onto a heavy board backing (see below). Condition: good to very good. The poster was mounted to a heavy backing board (it was likely dry-mounted). Before it was mounted, the poster had a 4" tear in the center of the top border and a 10" tear in the center of the bottom border, with a 2" scratch mark in the cheek of the man at lower left, but otherwise, the poster was in pretty nice condition. The person who backed the poster simply backed it as is without attempting to repair the above defects, but they are not very distracting. We have no idea how easy or difficult it would be to remove the poster from the backing board, but we would certainly think the poster could be framed and displayed exactly as it is.
