45 Aniversario de la Cinemateca de Cuba (literally translates to "45th anniversary of the Cuban Cinematheque"), the 2004 Cuban poster celebrating the 45th anniversary of ICAIC. The Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematograficos (ICAIC or Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry) was established by the Cuban government in March 1959 after the Cuban Revolution. The goals of ICAIC are to produce, distribute and exhibit films, to use film as a powerful mass communication medium, and to improve the quality level of Cuban films. Through educating the new generation of young directors, one of its responsibilities is to transform Cuba from a country of cinematic consumption to a production.
