eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 3s0598 LOT OF 2 LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT 8X10 STILLS 1927 Lon Chaney shown in vampire makeup in both! Date Sold 3/8/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. a lot of 2 7 1/2" x 9 1/2" stills from London After Midnight. The stills in this lot have a MOST unusual origin. They were found in a Texas movie theater in 1972, when the theater was being torn down. There were stills glued to boards that were displayed on one of the walls of the theater. Our consignor "rescued" these stills (and others, which we are auctioning in other bulk lots) by cutting them from the board. The stills have been trimmed (see our images). Obviously, the new owner of these could have them removed from the heavy boards they are glued to, or one could display them as they are. Either way, bear in mind this unusual defect BEFORE bidding on this lot of stills. Of course, London After Midnight (released in England as "The Hypnotist") is the 1927 Tod Browning silent Scotland Yard detective murder mystery hypnotism horror thriller ("Sherlock Holmes is good. but just wait till you see - Lon Chaney in London After Midnight"; "A man of a thousand faces in a great detective thriller!"; "Story by Tod Browning"; Chaney is a detective who is trying to solve a "cold case" murder, and because he is an accomplished hypnotist as well, he is able to hypnotize the principals and have them reenact the crime, which reveals who the murderer was; the vampire part of the movie comes from neighbors who are suspected of having committed the murder because they are vampires, and in the movie's most memorable scene, Chaney disguises himself as a vampire!) starring Lon Chaney Sr. (in his first and only role as a vampire!), Marceline Day, Henry B. Walthall, Percy Williams, Conrad Nagel, Polly Moran, Edna Tichenor, and Claude King. Note that this is a "lost movie", and surely the most famous lost movie there is. Many many people have spent a very long time searching for a print of this movie, and hopefully it will turn up some day! Also, note that this film was remade as Mark of the Vampire in 1935. Measurements: 7 1/2" x 9 1/2"Condition: fair to good. Many years ago, the stills were trimmed and each glued to a heavy board (see above). No one has performed any restoration, but it could be done, or they could be displayed as they are. However, bear in mind these defects before bidding.
