An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Belgian Movie Poster (measures 14 1/4" x 21" [36 x 53 cm]) (Learn More) The Tales of Hoffmann, the 1951 Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger English dance ballet opera romantic fantasy adventure musical (based on the opera by Jacques Offenbach, which in turn is based on the short stories by E.T.A. Hoffmann) starring Moira Shearer, Robert Helpmann, Leonide Massine, Robert Rounseville (in the title role as Hoffmann), Ludmilla Tcherina (billed as "Presenting Ludmilla Tcherina"), and Sir Thomas Beecham and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Note that this movie includes scenes of a fantasy island, and it was too costly to create such a set, so those scenes were done with the judicious use of matte paintings of the island! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was folded once in each direction, with minor wear on the folds. It had some faint stains in the top blank area, where a snipe was roughly removed. It had a 3" crease in the lower right border. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
