An Original 1957 Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

08/15, the 1954 (released in the U.S. in 1957) Paul May German pre-World War II (WWII) life-of-soldiers-in-the-German-Army melodrama ("Here are the 'krauts'... and their women... who tried to conquer the world..."; "The Story of Men, Brutes and Harlots!"; "..of men, brutes and harlots... the saga of German militarism... a film of power and sex!"; "Barracks Rowdyism!"; "Spiced with Passion"; "Lesson in Brutality"; "Farce of Marriage!"; "March of Torture!"; "The Sergeant's wife... easy prey for the whole camp!"; "From the international best selling novel by Hans Hellmut Kirst") starring Joachim Fuchsberger, Helen Vita, Paul Bosiger, Emmerich Schrenk, and Eva Ingeborg Scholz. Note that this was the first in a series of three movies directed by Paul May. This first part concerned how the life of common soldiers in the German army was just prior to World War II, and how they interacted with the officers, most of whom came from a very different background than the common soldiers. The second part dealt with the soldiers during World War II and included battle scenes. The third part dealt with the soldiers returning home after World War II, and showed occupying American troops, portraying them as inferior to the Germans in every way, and it is notable that there is a single Jewish American officer who is shown as a stereotypical unscrupulous person not to be trusted. The three parts were adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name by Hans Hellmut Kirst, and the title refers to the model of rifle carried by most German soldiers during World War II. Note that as far as we can tell, only this first part was released in the U.S. (not surprising since the second and third parts have anti-Semitic elements). When it was released in the U.S., it was sensationalized as an expose of how German soldiers really were ("the story of men, brutes, and harlots"), which was definitely very deceptive!
