Date Sold 8/27/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded French Four-Panel Movie Poster (4p; measures 74 1/2" x 115" [189 x 292 cm]; printed in 4 pieces) (Learn More) Jack, the 1913 Andre Liabel French silent family poverty melodrama (based on the novel by Alphonse Daudet, about an an illegitimate child and his selfish mother) starring Mademoiselle Ugazio (in the title role of young Jack), Villeneuve (in the title role as adult Jack), Olga Demidoff, Renee Sylvaire, Damores, and Andre Liabel. Note that the IMDb includes a complete plot summary of this movie, and it sounds like the author borrowed heavily from Charles Dickens' David Copperfield, except it is a much sadder story, where the boy grows up and his life doesn't get much better at all. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare pre-World War II French poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie, which we have only auctioned twice before! Virtually no French posters survive from before, during, or right after World War II. Apparently there were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters! Also note that this French four-panel was printed in 4 sections designed to overlap, and when combined, the poster measures 74 1/2" x 115" [189 x 292 cm]. Finally, note that the theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). Condition: fair to good. The theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). There is light staining scattered throughout the poster. It also has some tears and paper loss on folds and borders. After expert restoration, the poster will display well, but bear in mind its significant defects before bidding. Learn More about condition grades
