Date Sold 8/27/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Terry-toons, a 1942 stock poster used by theaters that show Terrytoons. What makes this Terry-Toons stock poster so cool is that it has the very first incarnation of Mighty Mouse, when he was still called Super Mouse. Super Mouse was created in 1942 (as a parody of Superman, who had started in 1938) and they changed his name because of a character of the same name that started at the same time in Coo Coo Comics. This poster also shows Gandy Goose, forgotten today, but a big Terry-Toon cartoon character in his day! Note that Paul Terry created a different "stock" poster for each year from 1937 through 1942. Each would have a completely different great image, showing many of his top cartoon stars of that year, and there would be a blank center area in each poster. After the posters were initially printed, they would overprint a group of the posters with a title of a particular cartoon from that year. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this stock poster is advertising the 1942 cartoon "The Mouse of Tomorrow" and that title has been overprinted in the white square in the center of the poster. What makes this stock poster so cool is that it has the very first incarnation of Mighty Mouse, when he was still called "Super Mouse" (it is amazing that DC did not sue Paul Terry for his obvious rip-off of Superman, especially since they were in the midst of suing Captain Marvel!). I seem to recall that the reason his name was changed from Super Mouse to Mighty Mouse WAS because DC demanded it (if anyone knows more about this, please let us know!). We have only auctioned two examples of this poster with that overprinted title before Condition: good to very good. The poster was folded in half an extra time resulting in a light vertical foldline at left and right. The edges have become somewhat fragile and they have tears of varying lengths and fold edge separation. Several inches of the upper vertical foldline has separated and is repaired with tape from the back. There is tiny creases, tears, and bits of paper loss along portions of the center horizontal fold and there is separation in the bottom crossfold. After linenbacking it should display well.
