The car made its first appearance in a 1939 issue of Detective Comics as a red sedan but soon featured a bat motif including wing-shaped tail fins. It is best known from the 1966 version that was created for the Batman TV show. George Barris, king of the car customizers (who also created the Munster Coach and "Drag-U-La" for the Munsters TV show) made the definitive version in 1966. Since that time, it has evolved into a customized sleek street machine. The Batmobile features a Ford FE V-8 engine and a B&M C-6 Automatic transmission. Some of the other gadgets include a Blast Proof Windshield, mounted Machine Gun, nose-mounted aluminum Cable Cutter Blade, Bat Ray Projector, Automatic Tire Inflation Device, Bat Smoke Screen, and many others Important Added Info: Note that this wonderful still shows a great image of Adam West in George Barris' Batmobile. It was used in a newspaper in 1966, and it has a date stamp of SEP 10 1966 on the newspaper clippings on the back of the still, and it also has a library stamp of SEP 11 1966, so it is 100% certainly from 1966. Condition: good. The still was used in a newspaper or magazine and there are paint enhancements within the image (so it would show up better in the printed article), and after it was used, someone cut out the article from the newspaper and glued it to the back of the still (see our image). There are also many creases scattered around the edges and a tiny tear in the bottom border. Learn More about condition grades
