An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) The Bride of Frankenstein, the classic 1935 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller sequel ("The Monster Demands a Mate!"; "The monster thriller"; "Who will be The Bride of Frankenstein. Who will dare?"; the second of the Universal Frankenstein movies, and the only example I am aware of where a sequel is clearly superior to the original movie!; this is James Whale's masterpiece, and almost everyone agrees it is among the finest movies ever made, regardless of genre) starring Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Colin Clive (as Dr. Henry Frankenstein), Valerie Hobson (as the bride of Dr. Frankenstein), Elsa Lanchester (in the title role as the bride of the Frankenstein monster, and also as Mary Shelley!), Una O'Connor, Ernest Thesiger (as Dr. Pretorius), E.E. Clive, O.P. Heggie, John Carradine, Dwight Frye (as Karl), Gavin Gordon, and Neil Fitzgerald NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of three wonderful stills that we were consigned (they are in three separate auctions). Each was taken at a theater that premiered this classic movie on April 19, 1935, and they were made prior to April 19, because they say "Starting FRIDAY" or "Coming FRIDAY", so likely they were made one week before. We know that the movie premiered on that date in San Francisco, Chicago, and Portland, and that it did not play in any other cities until the following day, so they are surely from one of those three cities, but we see no signs of which city indicated in any of the three images, and the back of all three stills are blank, so that is no help (of course, there is a good chance that this theater might have been restored, and if anyone recognizes which city it is from, please e-mail us and we will post it here. THIS THEATER REALLY WENT "ALL OUT" FOR THIS PREMIERE! Not only did the lobby of the theater have a massive display that was surely made solely for this theater (see one of our three images), but elsewhere in the lobby, they had a giant "Thrill Chart", and they also had a cut out of a nurse standing by a giant "First Aid" display, which said that the theater would give "free service to patrons during run of Bride of Frankenstein", and next to that display is a wall poster that is roughly the size of a three-sheet that has great art of the monster holding the bride, with great taglines including "Note: This is not a picture for nervous people". We feel certain that none of these posters or displays still exist, so these stills, which the theater had professionally made, are the only way to see them, and we have never auctioned any of these stills before, and since they came from a single theater, it is unlikely that any others survive. Condition: very good. There is slight discoloration in the left edge of the image. Otherwise, the still is in really excellent condition! Learn More about condition grades
