An INCOMPLETE Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Teaser Twenty-Four-Sheet Movie Poster (24sh; measures 34" x 104 1/4" [86 x 265 cm]) (Learn More) Hud, the classic 1963 Martin Ritt (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) Texas family relationship modern-day-cowboy cattle rancher melodrama ("Paul Newman is 'HUD'! The man with the barbed wire soul!"; "Why 'Hud'?"; "Because of the unusual nature of this film we will not reveal the story"; "From a novel by Larry McMurtry"; about one of the screen's all time greatest heels, Hud Bannon, superlatively played by Paul Newman who was robbed of an Oscar) starring Paul Newman (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Hud), Melvyn Douglas (winner of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Patricia Neal (winner of the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Brandon DeWilde, and Whit Bissell. Note that this movie was originally titled "Hud Bannon", but the title was shortened to simply "Hud". Paramount was worried about how the movie would do, especially because its central character was such an unlikable person, and they created a VERY unusual ad campaign, starting with a 24-sheet that solely showed an image of Newman in a small part of it, with the words "Why Hud?", and much of the 24-sheet blank. They wanted to create a mystery as to what the movie was about, in the hopes that people would not have preconceived notions and go see it, feeling that once they did, they would recognize what a quality movie it was, and this marketing strategy obviously worked, because the movie was very successful! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Mitchell Hooks Important Added Info: Note that someone had the 24-sheet for this movie, and they wanted a cool full-length art image of Paul Newman to hang on their wall, so they trimmed out the portion of the poster that shows Newman full-length, and threw away the rest of the poster (which oddly, was almost all white space, except for some more art on the left and right of the bottom of Newman's feet and the tagline "Why 'HUD'?" to the right of Newman's shoulder). So this poster has been greatly trimmed to just the image of Newman and it now measures 34" x 104 1/4" [86 x 265 cm]. Obviously, this is a massive defect, but on the other hand, you do have the portion of the poster with the art, so we leave it to bidders to decide what it's worth! Condition: poor. Someone trimmed the figure of Newman from a complete 24-sheet (see above). The part that is present has staple holes around the edges from where they attached it to their wall.
