Griffith silent romantic melodrama (based on the novel by Edwin Balmer; about a poor girl who becomes a model, and she gets involved with a bandleader, but when his estranged wife is killed, he becomes the prime suspect) starring Carol Dempster (in the title role as Joan Daisy Royle), W.C. Fields, James Kirkwood, Harrison Ford, Paul Everton, Kathleen Chambers, and William 'Shorty' Blanche. Note that apparently the top Paramount directors did not want to direct this movie, and Adolph Zukor and Jesse Lasky begged D.W. Griffith to accept the job, and he did. We imagine it was likely his idea to cast W.C. Fields as the girl's father in what was otherwise a straight romantic melodrama (Fields had just made "Sally of the Sawdust" for Griffith). Apparently, this movie is considered "lost", as there are likely no surviving prints of it, and movie paper of any kind from it is beyond rare! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: good to very good. Both have a few tiny pinholes around the edges and some scuffs that are mostly only noticeable when the still is tilted to the light. They are otherwise in pretty nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
