An Original Vintage Unfolded East German Stage Play Poster (measures 22 1/2" x 32" [57 x 81 cm]) (Learn More) Mutter Courage und Ihre Kinder (literally translates to "Mother Courage and Her Children"), the 1986 East German stage play production (written by Bertolt Brecht) that was held at the Theater der Stadt in Cottbus, Germany. Note that this poster features art of a pull cart. Bertolt Brecht was a German theatre practitioner, playwright, and poet from the 1920s to 1956. He was the main proponent of the genre named epic theater. During the Nazi period and World War II he lived in exile, first in Scandinavia and then in the United States. Returning to East Berlin after the war, he established the theatre company Berliner Ensemble with his wife and long-time collaborator, actress Helene Weigel.
