An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Australian Daybill Movie Poster (measures 15" x 40") (Learn More) Monna Vanna, the 1923 Richard Eichberg German silent romantic melodrama (similar in plot to "That Lady in Ermine", it is about an Italian general in Pisa, Italy, and his father tells him that the enemy will end the war, but solely if his wife, Monna Vanna, will go to the enemy camp, "dressed only in a mantle", and his wife is agreeable to this demand!) starring Lee Parry (in the title role as Monna Vanna), Paul Wegener (best remembered as the co-director and star of the three German expressionist movies starring "The Golem", which he made in 1915, 1917 and 1920; the Golem is widely regarded as one of the first movie monsters, and likely had a strong influence on American horror movies!), Hans Sturm, Paul Graetz, and Hans Hurka. Note that this was a German movie made by "Bavarian Film", but that William Fox co-produced the movie, no doubt so that he could get the U.S. distribution rights for it. Note that this movie had an unusual source from which it was created. It was based on an unfinished opera by Sergei Rachmaninoff after a play by Maurice Maeterlinck. The opera was not finished for a very long time, but this movie was based on it! Finally, it was completed in 1984, and was presented in New York. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
