Date Sold 10/3/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. a lot of 1 bound volume of issues of Picture Play magazine from January to December 1925. Of course, Street & Smith's Picture-Play ("America's Favorite Magazine of the Screen"; "The Best Magazine of the Screen"; "Little Journeys to Filmland"; "The Film Magazine for Moderns"; "The Honest Magazine of the Screen") is one of the many movie magazines (first published in the early 1910s, when it measures 6 3/4" x 10") sold to the public (within a few years it would go to the larger size that became standard among movie magazines). Each issue features a great full color cover of a leading star of the day, plus lots of interior publicity stories about current stars and movies with many black and white images throughout. Also, in every issue are many wonderful vintage ads, in black and white, and sometimes the ads can be just as much fun as the original stories and pictures. Of course, some of the ads are from movies that were about to open, and in the early days of eBay, people would remove those full-page ads and auction them by themselves, and they would often sell for $10, $20, or more, just for a single movie ad removed from a magazine just like this! Note that in December of 1939, the publishers of the magazine drastically revamped it and tried to give it a new updated look, with a complete makeover! There was a subtitle under the title that read "The Film Magazine for Moderns (News - Pictures - Fashions - Beauty)". We have no idea of whether this increased circulation or not. Note that this is one of ten bound volumes of early movie magazines that we are currently auctioning, in ten separate auctions. Measurements: 8 1/2" x 11"Condition: poor to fair. This one bound volume is in MUCH lesser condition than the others we are currently auctioning. It has extreme condition defects, so do not bid on it unless you can accept them. The binding has almost completely separated from the interior magazines, and they have mold or mildew on them. Some of the issues, which are still bound together, were poorly trimmed at the bottom so that they entered into the stories. Someone amateurishly colored in some of the interior pages in one of the issues and some of the pages from several of the magazines are very brittle.
