A Vintage Autographed Hardcover Book (measures 6" x 8 1/2" [15 x 22 cm]; 266 pages) (Learn More) John Fitzgerald Kennedy was a politician from the 1950s to the 1960s. He was the 35th President of the United States from 1961 until he was tragically assassinated while in office on November 23, 1963 at the age of 46. His brother Robert was assassinated five years later while he was running for President, and their older brother Joe died in World War II. Their father was Joseph P. Kennedy, the famous businessman who had a long-running affair with Gloria Swanson and produced some of her movies. The "Kennedy curse" continues as JFK's son was a toddler when his father was killed, and later died in a plane crash at a young age. Important Added Info: Note that this book has been personally autographed (signed) by John F. Kennedy! This book came from the estate of a man who collected many different kinds of memorabilia starting in the 1960s. He purchased it in 1996 for $1,500 from a book dealer in New York City named John McGowan. Mr. McGowan provided our consignor with a photocopy of a 1996 letter from Gertrude Lyons, who acquired the book from her brother, who, together with Miss Lyons, was the son of the longtime Borough President of Bronx County, James Lyons. Miss Lyons' brother was a campaign worker for John F. Kennedy during his senatorial and presidential campaigns, and he brought this book to President Kennedy and asked him to autograph it to his father, James Lyons, which he did in his presence, and the letter attests to that (and the photocopy of the letter and Mr. McGowan's business card will be sent together with this book. We urge all bidders to do any additional authenticating of the signature on this book BEFORE they place a bid! Also note that we have pictured the front cover, the title page, and the interior page that shows the publishing information, and one or more interior 2-page spreads. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased (although we prefer they do any "authenticating" while the auction is "live" and before they place a bid) and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: good to very good. There was something (perhaps a newspaper clipping) inserted in the first page of the book, and it discolored the area with the inscription and the autograph (that entire area, but not the entire page). Obviously, one could leave this exactly as it is, or one might choose to have a professional remove the discoloration from that page. Please look closely at the signed page and do any further authentication of the signature before placing a bid on this rare and historic book! Learn More about condition grades
