Date Sold 11/12/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage 2 3/4" x 4 1/2" [7 x 11 cm] Photo (Learn More) Marked Woman, the 1937 Lloyd Bacon & Michael Curtiz bad girl prostitution crime murder thriller ("A Star Teaming You'll Never Forget!!!"; "The Kind Ladies Don't Talk To!"; "Meet the girls who got caught in a racket!"; "You work the way I tell you, or else!"; about a "party girl", whose sister is murdered, and a crusading DA convinces her to testify against the gangsters who killed her sister) starring Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart, Lola Lane, Isabel Jewell, Eduardo Ciannelli, Jane Bryan, Rosalind Marquis, Mayo Methot (who was married Bogart in real life the year after this movie, and they stayed married until he left her for Lauren Bacall), Allen Jenkins, John Litel, Ben Welden, Henry O'Neill, and Raymond Hatton. Note that after the Production Code was instituted, references to prostitution had to be carefully disguised, and Davis' character was described as a "hostess" in a club run by gangsters, but everyone watching the movie knew what she really did for a living! Also note that this was one of the many movies Humphrey Bogart made after his great success of "The Petrified Forest" in 1936. But even though he got second billing in this movie, Warner Bros. did not see him as having strong box office appeal, and they left him off most of the posters, focusing on "bad" Bette Davis! Important Added Info: Note that in October of 2017, we auctioned a wonderful collection of 27 photos (most measured 3.5x5.25, but some measured slightly smaller) that were taken by a man who worked at a large movie theater in the late 1930s and early 1940s. He created wonderful theater fronts and homemade posters (some that were displayed outside the theater and some inside the theater), and after he finished making his displays, he would take a picture of each and then he put them in a scrapbook. Collectors rightfully bid aggressively on these photos, and all but 4 auctioned for more than $20 each, and 7 sold for $100 or more, with two selling for over $300 each! Now we are offering another 27 photos from this amazing scrapbook! We auctioned many of the best titles in the first group, but there are a number of equally interesting titles in this group. After this, there will be just a few more theater front photos left to auction from the scrapbook, so for the most part, this is the last chance to acquire these very rare to find photos of original theater fronts and local theater displays from this time period. Each of the 27 photos is in a separate auction with this paragraph on them. Condition: very good. The photo was stapled to an album page, and there are staple holes in the corners (see our images).
