An Original Vintage Unfolded German Stage Play Poster (measures 23 1/2" x 33" [60 x 84 cm]) (Learn More) Leben des Galilei (literally translates to "Life of Galileo"), the 1985 German stage play production (of the play by Bertolt Brecht) which was held at the Stadtische Buhnen in Osnabruck, Germany. Note that this poster features art by Michael Mathias Prechtl. It was commissioned by German theater director Dr. Erdmut August who also created what may be the world's largest international theater poster archive with holdings of 16,000 different posters by many of the world's leading poster artists. Bertolt Brecht was a German theatre practitioner, playwright, and poet from the 1920s to 1956. He was the main proponent of the genre named epic theater. During the Nazi period and World War II he lived in exile, first in Scandinavia and then in the United States. Returning to East Berlin after the war, he established the theatre company Berliner Ensemble with his wife and long-time collaborator, actress Helene Weigel.
