An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Forty by Sixty Movie Poster (measures 40" x 60") (Learn More) Giant, the classic 1956 George Stevens (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) Texas oil cattle romantic love triangle family relationship epic ("Liz and Rock!"; "There is no man in Earth who is more man than Bick Benedict in Giant There is no woman who is more woman than Leslie Lynnton in Giant"; "A picture of proud people. A love story. A cavalcade. -- A Conflict of creeds. A personal melodrama of strong longings. -- A big story of big things and big feelings. -- This is 'Giant'"; "Screen play by Fred Guiol and Ivan Moffat"; about two generations of a wealthy Texas cattle family, and their poor relative who rises to incredible wealth through the discovery of oil on his land; from the novel by Edna Ferber; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Elizabeth Taylor ("as Leslie Lynnton... Whether you loved her in the open, or hid it inside you -- you hungered."), Rock Hudson (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; "as Bick Benedict... Who was big enough to stand up and take what he wanted, and biggest, one day, when he crawled."), James Dean (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; "as Jett Rink... He was made of laughs and lies and loving looks: he was made to get to the top -- so he could have the fun of falling all the way down."), Carroll Baker, Jane Withers, Chill Wills, Mercedes McCambridge (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Sal Mineo, Dennis Hopper, Rod Taylor (very early in his career, billed as "Rodney Taylor"), and Carolyn Craig. Note that some film buffs collectively refer to Shane, Giant, and A Place in the Sun as "George Stevens' American Trilogy". NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this classic American Texas epic movie had a remarkably uninspiring ad campaign on its initial release! Most of the posters had a similar image, which appeal to virtually nobody! However, there was one, and only one, exceptional U.S. poster made for the initial release, which was the 40x60, which features three great full-length images of the three stars (there is no other poster with even a similar design)! Condition: fair to good. The poster has a major piece of the top right corner of the poster was missing (it measures 11" across the top edge and 7 1/2" down the right edge). It is an uneven piece, and for there to not be the slightest question as to exactly what was missing, we have provided a second image under our "super-sized" image that shows an EXACT line where the paper loss is. Prior to my receiving the poster, a major restorer replaced the missing area and paperbacked the entire poster (it is backed on a paper that is only slightly heavier than the original, so the poster is still "roll-able"), but to be on the safe side we will send it in an extremely wide tube (12" wide!) so that it only has to be rolled a slight amount. You can see from our close-up photo (which is low resolution, and somewhat "grainy") that the missing area included half of Dean's head, and the restorer did a pretty nice job re-creating the missing area and matching it to the existing poster. I am standing looking at the poster as I write this, and I think that once you know what is missing, your eye goes right to the missing area, but that if you were not looking for it, you would not immediately realize it from any distance away. Other than the missing area, the poster had many light creases, scuffs, and smudges throughout, but again, they are not all that noticeable from any distance. Obviously, one would much prefer to find this poster in excellent unrestored condition. But I only know of a couple of other examples of this magnificent poster (featuring three of the greatest movie legends of all-time standing full-length). When I have seen this poster sold, it has sold for many thousands of dollars, and that was for a restored example (I don't know the extent of the restoration, but it was clearly NOT in great condition). I would think many collectors could happily display this poster as it is, and accept its major defect. Another possibility would be to have it re-restored by the absolutely best restorers. They could make the missing area virtually indistinguishable from a complete example. In any event, please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept the restoration it has had, or are willing to pay to have it re-restored. FINALLY, NOTE THAT THIS VERY LARGE TUBE WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT TO SEND OUT OF THE UNITED STATES. It would have to go by air freight, and would likely cost at least $200, so please bare that in mind before you bid, if you live outside the United States and need to have it delivered outside the United States.
