Date Sold 1/31/2013Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Waterloo Bridge, the 1931 James Whale pre-Code World War I (WWI) military romantic prostitute soldier melodrama ("The picture of the year!"; "The dramatic sensation of the year!"; "from Robert E. Sherwood's great stage success"; about a former chorus girl in London who is forced into prostitution, and she picks up an innocent soldier on the title bridge, and he falls in love with her, and she sees a chance to escape her life, but after talking to his mother, she decides she would be no good for him, and she leaves, but he tracks her down!) starring Mae Clarke, Douglass Montgomery (billed as "Kent Douglass"), Doris Lloyd, Bette Davis (in her third movie, she is 4th billed, and she would soon become a leading lady, and the following year she had her great breakthrough in "The Cabin in the Cotton"), Enid Bennett, and Frederick Kerr. Note that just about everyone thinks this forgotten version of this movie is superior to the 1940 MGM version starring Vivien Leigh and Robert Taylor. That is partially because this pre-Code version is able to be very open about Mae Clarke's profession, but also partly because it was directed by the great James Whale, who went on to create perhaps the finest horror movie ever filmed, The Bride of Frankenstein! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: good to very good. There are faint red ink stains in the girl's face at right, but the still is otherwise in nice condition!
