Schoedsack Africa New York City giant ape fantasy romantic love triangle adventure horror thriller ("'The most awesome thriller of all time' the one and only"; "Not beast.. Not human.... Not devil.. Cooper"; based on the story by Edgar Wallace, with incredible special effects by Willis O'Brien) starring Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong (as Carl Denham), Bruce Cabot, Frank Reicher, and Sam Hardy NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this scene card, and that was 5 years ago! Also note that for this 1938 re-release (just five years after the original release), RKO created all different border art, and had all full-color lobby cards and posters. In all our years of auctioning, we have only auctioned six lobby cards from this 1938 re-release, as opposed to sixteen cards from the 1933 first release, and a much greater number of cards from all the other releases. Cards from this 1938 re-release are the most rare of any lobby cards from this 1933 classic movie! Now we are currently auctioning the entire set of eight cards from the 1938 re-release, in eight separate auctions! Note that this card has been "gel backed". What does that mean? It means that a talented restorer backed the card onto a gel material, and they then performed restoration to the above defects, and then removed the gel backing, and afterward the card still looks and feels like an original card (and it is!), with no backing at all. Many collectors prefer this method of restoration to paperbacking or linenbacking, because with those methods the card no longer looks like it was not backed. Gel backing can't be used with cards that have major paper loss or other major defects, but for the cards it can be used on, it is really an excellent method of restoration! Note that this card has a stamp on the back that indicates it came from the legendary "Cozy Theater" collection! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. What IS gelbacking? Learn More Condition: very good. The card had tiny pinholes around the edges, with some in the bottom center of the image, with three in the ground and one in a man's pants. There is tiny paper loss in the bottom blank corners. the card had a stain in the center of the top blank border and faint staining in the center of the card, in the bottom of the vegetation. It had a faint stain in the upper left background area and a faint stain in the "K" of "KING", slightly extending in the white belong that "K". Overall, the card was in good to very good condition prior to restoration. The stains described above were ironically caused by the Cozy Theatre stamps on the back, and if you look at our image of the back of the card, you can see where the stains were on the front. A talented restorer touched up those stains to where they are virtually invisible, but they left alone the pinholes and tiny paper loss described above. The card displays well, but please read the above and look at our super-sized images of both sides before bidding. Learn More about condition grades
