An Original Vintage Unfolded East German Stage Play Poster (measures 22 1/4" x 31 3/4" [57 x 81 cm]) (Learn More) Horizonte, the 1970s East German stage play production (of the work by Heiner Muller) starring Angelika Domroese, Susanne Duellmann, Marion Van De Kamp, Ursula Karusseit, and Wilfried Ortman. Note that Domrose (prior to her leaving the country for the West) was one of East Germany's most popular actresses. In 1966 she joined the Berliner Ensemble and later worked with the Volksbuhne Berlin until 1979, where she performed in plays by George Bernard Shaw, William Shakespeare and Peter Hacks. She also worked for the DEFA film studio and Deutscher Fernsehfunk. In 1971, 1973 and 1975 she was nominated television actress of the year, and in 1976 she won the National Prize of East Germany. In 1980 she left the GDR and moved to West Germany. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been mounted onto a "Chartex"-like material (we are not 100% certain it is Chartex, but if not, it is something very similar. Chartex is a backing paper that is a linen-like paper, similar to the material you line drawers with. It serves its function well in that the poster is preserved, which is why many restorers other than movie poster restorers use it, but it is very difficult to impossible to remove from the back of the poster. SO DO NOT BID ON THIS POSTER UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT THAT IT LIKELY CAN'T BE REMOVED FROM ITS BACKING, AND WILL NEED TO BE KEPT AS IT IS (although it is not harming the poster, and it enables it to be displayed). Note also that silkscreen (also known as screen printing) is a printing technique whereby a mesh is used to transfer ink onto a poster. Only one color is printed at a time, so several screens must be used to produce a multicolored design, and it is a laborious technique because it is traditionally all done by hand. Because of the rich thickness of the layer of color on the paper and the resulting depth and brilliance achieved through silkscreen printing, this technique was preferred by many artists throughout many cultures and periods. Condition: good. The poster is mounted onto a Chartex-like material (see above). It has begun to "peel" from the backing in some areas (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
