An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Desert Vengeance, the 1931 Louis King romantic cowboy western melodrama ("The screen's greatest outdoor star in a breath-taking all dialog western!"; this was unusual for Buck Jones, because he does not play a hero!; rather he is an outlaw who gets swindled by a husband and wife team who pose as brother and sister, and when he discovers what they did, he virtually imprisons them, and treats them terribly!) starring Buck Jones ("The screen's greatest outdoor star!"), Barbara Bedford, Douglas Gilmore, Edward Brady, Albert J. Smith, Bob Fleming, and Slim Whitaker. Note that Buck Jones' white horse was named Silver (just like The Lone Ranger's later on!), and Silver made 73 movies with Buck Jones from 1922 until Jones' death in 1942 in the tragic Cocoanut Grove fire. But oddly, Silver was almost never billed on the posters for Buck Jones' movies as so many other famous horses (most especially Tom Mix's Tony) were!

Important Added Info: Note that this is an incredibly rare poster! We have never auctioned it before, although Richard Allen once owned an example of it, and we used that image in our "60 Great Cowboy Movie Posters" book (and it is certainly one of the best cowboy movie posters ever!). It is likely so incredibly rare because this 1931 movie was quickly re-released in 1934 (as were several other Buck Jones westerns), and Columbia created all new posters for the re-release (with different art that showed Jones in profile in a gunfight), and it is likely that all of the remaining 1931 posters were destroyed at that time!

UPDATED 05/03/2016: Note that we have updated the Condition information.

Condition: fair to good. Someone put much paper tape on the front of the borders, no doubt to "reinforce" them, and to cover pinholes and tears in the borders. They also put pieces of clear tape on the back of the bottom horizontal fold, and also on parts of the back of other foldlines, where there were small tears, separation, and tiny bits of paper loss. There is a light irregularly shaped stain in the horse's head, near to his eye. There is a fine diagonal scratch mark in Jones' face. There is a piece of clear tape on the front of the top center of the image, partially in the top of the right of the brim of Jones' hat, and partially in the sky background above it. The poster was displayed against a corrugated cardboard, and it has caused the poster to discolor slightly, and you can see the outline of the corrugation faintly on the back of the poster. Someone apparently used a black marker to "touch up" the left of the bottom blue line around the edges of the image, and there also was a piece of clear tape over the bottom right corner of the image, and another piece of clear tape over the very top of the left corner of the image (next to the "C" of "Columbia"). There are other defects scattered throughout the poster that you can see in our Supersized image. Certainly, this wonderful poster should be immediately given to the very best restorer the new owner knows, and properly restored and linenbacked, after which it will look fantastic! Obviously, one would prefer to find a better example of this poster (or an unrestored one), but the poster is incredibly rare, and it might be years before another one comes for sale or auction, in any condition!
