eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 5r0083 LOST HORIZON insert 1937 Frank Capra's greatest production starring Ronald Colman, very rare! Date Sold 9/3/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Lost Horizon, the classic 1937 Frank Capra Shangri-La romantic fantasy religious mystery adventure melodrama ("Might spectacle of human emotions"; "Frank Capra's mightiest production becomes the greatest entertainment in all screen history!"; "Mightiest of all motion pictures!"; "Frank Capra's Greatest Production"; "Columbia's great Adventure of Tibet"; "James Hilton's immortal novel becomes epic entertainment!"; "From the novel by James Hilton"; "Screen Play by Robert Riskin"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about a plane with a group of very different English passengers, including two brothers, that crash lands in the Himalayas, and they find a group of Tibetan monks who live in a peaceful paradise where everyone seems to live forever, but will they stay, or will they try to return to England?) starring Ronald Colman (as Robert Conway), ("and a notable cast" including) Jane Wyatt, John Howard (as George Conway), Margo (as Maria), Thomas Mitchell, Edward Everett Horton, Isabel Jewell, H.B. Warner (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Chang), and Sam Jaffe (as the "High Lama") NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this insert, and only one in the last 13 years (it sold for $865)! Also note that this poster has tape repairs on the back (see below), and it would not make sense to roll it, as doing so would surely lessen the condition. Therefore we must be sent in a very large flat package. Please bear that extra shipping cost in mind BEFORE placing a bid on this poster! Condition: good. The poster had creases and separation on all three folds and someone put tape on the back of all three folds. In addition, poster has darkened, typical of Columbia posters of this period (however, it is not fragile). The poster also has a line of uneven light brown stains scattered in a line above Frank Capra's credit and extending into Wyatt's face, and there are similar light brown stains scattered around the edges, with a few elsewhere in the image (see our super-sized image to see exactly where they are and how noticeable they are). This is the sort of poster that responds really well to professional restoration. It is likely that much or all of the light brown staining can be removed through chemical means, after which the poster will look fantastic, but bear the poster's defects and the cost in mind before bidding on this extremely rare poster.
