Date Sold 3/5/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Africa Speaks!, the 1930 Walter Futter jungle safari wild animal documentary ("The strangest romance ever filmed!"; "Thrilling adventure in the unexplored regions of Equatorial Africa"; "Produced by the Colorado African Expedition, Inc.") featuring Paul Hoefler (who was the man who went to Africa, and who wrote a book of the same name about his experiences), Harald Austin, Charles Gemora (as a gorilla), and narrated by Lowell Thomas. Note that this movie was first released by Columbia Pictures in 1930, but was then re-released by Mascot at some point in the 1930s, and then by Sack Amusements in 1942 (no doubt the movie proved popular in small towns, likely because it contained the obligatory topless native women, that almost all similar movies contained). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this 1930 first release title card! Other than this title card, we have auctioned the one-sheet (which has a completely different image from this title card), and we also auctioned some scene lobby cards and a glass slide, but no other posters, because all of them are extremely rare. We suspect this is because when Columbia was a struggling studio in 1930, they released all sorts of exploitation movies like these, but when they achieved great success with the Frank Capra movies and others, they sought to end releasing these kinds of movies (and in fact, they sold the rights to this movie to Mascot at some point in the 1930s)! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good. There is faint water staining in the lower left blank border, with a few tiny dot stains scattered in the top and bottom blank borders, and a few faint scuffs in the left and right edges of the image. Other than the above, the card is in nice condition. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
