Date Sold 10/22/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Clutching Hand, the 1936 Albert Herman serial science fiction (sci-fi) masked super villain crime mystery thriller serial ("A Craig Kennedy Thriller in fifteen chapters from the novel by Arthur B. Reeve") starring Jack Mulhall, William Farnum, Ruth Mix (daughter of Tom Mix, who appeared in around a dozen movies, starting as a teenager), Marion Shilling, Yakima Canutt, Rex Lease, and Mae Busch. Note that the IMDb says that the official title of this movie is "The Amazing Exploits of the Clutching Hand", but we have never seen any movie paper with that title (but it apparently does exist on some film prints). Also, like many other serials of the time, a feature version was created by editing the chapters of the serial into a 74 minute movie which had the same name as the serial and was also released in 1936. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that there are two versions of this poster! One has the words "in fifteen chapters" under the "A Craig Kennedy Thriller", and the other is blank in that area. One of them has artwork only at top center, and the other has "CHAPTER NO 1 WHO IS THE CLUTCHING HAND?" at top center. Otherwise, the two posters are identical. The one with "in fifteen chapters" is for the serial version, and that the other one without it is for the feature version of the serial, which was released the same year. Obviously, they were both printed from the same printing plates, with the addition of more words on the one for the serial version (this would have saved them money by not having to create new printing plates for one of the posters). The poster offered here is for the feature which we have only auctioned twice (and the same poster we last auctioned in 2020 has been reconsigned to us for this auction, so it is still only the second example we have ever auctioned)! Condition: fair to good. The poster has slight discoloration scattered in various areas throughout and there are remnants of a snipe at center (see our image). It has complete separation of the upper vertical foldline with some associated paper loss and there are pinholes around the edges and MANY pinholes in the lower credits area. The artwork is mostly "all there" and certainly a top restorer can repair the defects described above, and after, the poster will display well, but please bear in mind the rare poster's clear defects and the cost of restoration before placing a bid.
