It was first published in 1939, as a sister publication to the extremely popular Astounding Science Fiction, and was also edited by John Campbell and published by Street & Smith and used the same authors who wrote for Astounding. Campbell wanted to keep Astounding Science Fiction science fiction based, and yet he knew there was a market for fantasy stories, so they started this second magazine for that purpose. However, he was afraid it would have silly ghost stories and the like, and he tried to keep it limited to intelligent fantasy! Artist: Graves Gladney Condition: good to very good. Note that in our photo it appears that there is small paper loss in the bottom left corner of the cover. That piece is folded back onto the spine, and we did not want to re-photograph it in case it would detach, but know that almost all of that missing area is present, with just a tiny bit of paper loss at the right end of it.
