A Paperbacked Original Vintage English Movie Trade Ad (measures 17 1/2" x 22 1/4" [44 x 57 cm]) (Learn More)

The Ninth Guest, the 1934 Roy William Neill Manhattan New York City crime murder mystery melodrama (about eight people who are invited to a fancy penthouse for dinner, and when they arrive, the host is nowhere to be seen, and the host's voice comes over a loudspeaker and tells them he hates each of them, and that he will kill them all before the night is out!) starring Donald Cook, Genevieve Tobin, Hardie Albrite, Edward Ellis, and Edwin Maxwell. Note that this completely forgotten movie has one of the most famous plots of movie history! It was "borrowed" by Agatha Christie for her "Ten Little Indians", and was re-used in the 1939 Boris Karloff movie, "The Man They Could Not Hang", and lots of other movies have borrowed some or all of this plot, including the comedy spoof "Murder by Death", which closely parallels the plot of this movie, except in a humorous way!

Important Added Info: Note that original 1934 movie paper of any kind from this movie is incredibly rare! We have once before sold two incomplete window cards, but have otherwise never sold any original item from 1934, until we were consigned this English trade ad! Also note that this trade ad has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the trade ad was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original ad (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. Also note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thinner paper backing, it COULD be sent rolled, but we would MUCH prefer to send it in a large flat package (because we fear that rolling it, even into a wide tube, would have an excellent change of damaging it, so we will only send it in a tube if the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage), but otherwise, we will ship it in a very large flat package, so bear that expense in mind before bidding on this poster.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. Prior to paperbacking, the trade ad was the centerfold of a magazine and was in very nice condition prior to paperbacking. The trade ad was nicely backed, and displays well!
