An Original Vintage English Magazine Supplement Page (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm]) (Learn More)

Downhill (released in the U.S. as "When Boys Leave Home"), the 1927 Alfred Hitchcock English silent romantic love triangle inheritance melodrama (about the son of a rich English family who foolishly takes the blame for a school scandal that his friend caused, and he is expelled, causing his family to disown him, and his life keeps going downhill, as he gets involved with an awful woman who has a boyfriend on the side, and things go from bad to worse) starring Ivor Novello, Isabel Jeans, Robin Irvine, Ian Hunter, Norman McKinnel, Ben Webster, and Lillian Braithwaite. Note that this was Alfred Hitchcock's fifth movie as a director, and he includes a number of scenes of the hero on elevators and escalators, always going "down", to reinforce what is happening to his life, and there are other "Hitchcock touches"!

Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned three English stills, and no posters of any kind, from this very early Alfred Hitchcock directed movie! In addition to this magazine supplement page, we are also currently auctioning a French magazine that has an adaptation of the movie (basically a movie edition), together with many full-page images from the movie!

Note that this page was removed from an "art supplement" to the November 5, 1927 issue of Picture Show. There is printing on the reverse side of the page, and we did not photograph it. But this page can be matted or framed for little money and makes a great inexpensive display!

Condition: good to very good.
