Originally it was called Johnston's Fluid Beef and was created for the troops of Napoleon III. It is considered to be an icon of British culture and recognizable by its distinctive jar. The product can be made into a drink by diluting with hot water or, less commonly, with milk. It can be also used as a flavoring for soups, broth, stews or porridge, or as a spread, especially on toast in a similar fashion to Marmite and Vegemite. Artist: Tom Purvis
