An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 12" x 17 3/4" [30 x 45 cm]; 9 pages) (Learn More)

The Menace, the 1932 Roy William Neill crime plastic surgery murder mystery thriller ("'The Menace' will get you! Will hold you! Will scare you! Will delight you!"; "Swift smart strong story"; "What part did this delightful monster play?"; "Romantic mystery drama!"; "From the story 'The Feathered Serpent' by Edgar Wallace"; about a man falsely accused by his stepmother of killing his father, when she actually did it, but after she gets him falsely convicted, he escapes prison, gets into a disfiguring explosion that requires face-changing plastic surgery which fortunately gives him a new identify, so he then proceeds to woo his stepmother in order to trick her into exposing her lies!) starring H.B. Warner, Bette Davis, Walter Byron, Natalie Moorhead, and William B. Davidson. Note that this was early in Bette Davis' career, and Warner Bros. did not yet realize what a major star she would become, and so they "loaned" her to Columbia to make this movie!

Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned two lobby cards, a herald, and a single 8x10 still from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this pressbook! Note that this is one of a truly remarkable collection of 37 uncut pressbooks we have been consigned and are auctioning in 37 separate auctions! This is absolutely the finest collection of pressbooks we have ever auctioned at one time. Many of these are ones we have either never auctioned before or only once auctioned before, sometimes many years ago. These were collected decades ago, which was the only time that many of these could be found, and after these auctions are over it may be years (or decades!) before some of these are offered again. They ARE that rare! Note that pressbooks from the 1930s can't be found in great condition, and some of them are printed on newsprint, and are hard to find in even lesser condition. We have many images from each pressbook. We have given each an overall grade, and ask that you look at our images to get a good sense of the condition of that pressbook, because, since they have many pages, it would take forever to describe their condition in detail. However, EVERY one of these pressbooks is complete and uncut!

Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut!

Condition: good to very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. It was once in a bound volume and it was removed and someone put staples down the spine and clear tape over the staples. It was folded across the middle at one time. Otherwise the pressbook is in pretty nice condition. See our many images to get a good sense of the exact condition of this pressbook.
