An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28 1/2" x 41" [72 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) This is America: Berlin Powderkeg, the 1949 William Deeke Cold War Europe post World War II (WWII) splitting-of-Germany documentary newsreel short ("A new release every 4 weeks"; "No.3 7th series") narrated by Dwight Weist. In May of 1949, the French, English, and U.S. zones of Germany were merged into the Federal Republic of Germany (or "West Germany"), and in October, the Soviet zone became the German Democratic Republic (or "East Germany"), and that country became the focal point of the new "Cold War" between the U.S. and Russia, which had been strong allies during World War II, and this documentary, which was released in January of 1949, told of the events that led to Germany (and Berlin) being split into two. Note that this is one of the "This is America" series of documentary short subjects that was distributed monthly by RKO between 1933 and 1951 (at least). If anyone knows more about this series, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Artist: Kuttner Important Added Info: Note that this poster measures 28 1/2" x 41" [72 x 104 cm]. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had small paper loss at the crossfolds and fine surface paper loss, small tears, and creases on parts of the foldlines, with some longer tears in the left and right of the middle horizontal fold. There was some pen doodling in the top left corner, including in the "BER" of "BERLIN" and pinholes around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did little restoration to the defects described above, and the poster is slightly "lifting" from the linen in the bottom right corner. If I owned this, I surely would have it removed from the old linen and have proper restoration performed (although a restorer could also simply re-glue the bottom right corner and touch up the doodling in the top left corner, and it would then display well!
