An Undated (probably 1942) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Melody Lingers On, the 1935 David Burton family relationship romantic musical ("A golden symphony of thrilling song, vibrant romance and soul stirring emotion!"; based on the novel by Lowell Brentano; a really wild convoluted story of an Italian woman who has an affair with an opera singer/army officer, and she gives their baby to a convent for safekeeping, but after World War I, during which he died, she tries to get her baby back, and they won't do it because she is now single, so she becomes a nun to be close to her son, but she doesn't know which boy he is!; she figures out who he is, but he has been adopted by a rich diplomatic family, so she teaches herself the piano and becomes a concert pianist, which lets her become friends with the diplomat, and she tries to teach her son, who doesn't know who she is, to be a musician like his father, but his adopted parents are against it, and ultimately, she reveals the truth, and he becomes an opera star like his father) starring Josephine Hutchinson, George Houston (in his second movie role!), John Halliday, Mona Barrie, and Helen Westley NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has "Copyright 1935 Astor" in the bottom left, which seems quite odd! Normally, a copyright is for the original studio and not for the re-release distributor. In addition, it would seem likely that Astor re-released this movie in the 1940s, because that is when most of their re-releases were from, but the company did begin in 1930, so it COULD be from 1935. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and some minor wear on the foldlines. It has some scattered smudging in the bottom white background areas below the title, which could be the result of a snipe being glued over the title, or it could be something the post acquired after it was backed. In addition, the poster and the linen are slightly rippled. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
